MEGA Tech has received a good opportunity to interview Mr. Atsushi Okamoto after gaining the position of Managing Director of Mazak (Thailand) Co., Ltd. regarding the new role in managing MAZAK’s operations in THAILAND under the concept “profit-making machines” to boost the customers’ confidence. In addition to selling the machines, we also have continuously developed the software in response to the growing demands in the future. Hence, we offer the most comprehensive solutions to the customers.
Our job is to support our customers’ production activities through the sale, repair and maintenance of Mazak machine tools in Thailand.
We listen closely to our customers, to try and understand in detail what they need and what is the most suitable option for them. We provide after-sales support, brainstorming together with our customers to find profitable solutions.
In 2022, it is expected that the economy will recover with the convergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will focus on potential industries in order to ride the wave of new economic opportunities.
Continuously developing to support the growth of industry 4.0
In Thailand, where the birth rate is declining and the population is aging, man-power saving and automation are expected to be inevitable.
In view of such times Mazak has focused on developing automated systems that anyone can easily set up, such as programming for robots, and software that monitors the operating status of machines remotely.
These demands are expected to increase rapidly in the next few years. Therefore instead of only selling machines, we would like to provide our customers with a total solution by also offering the option of system software with their purchase.
Intergrex generates profit by increasing two times the manufacturing capacity
One of Mazak’s representative models is INTEGREX, which is an ATC-type metal processing machine that combines a lathe and a machining center into a single unit. This is a multitasking machine capable of turning and milling and simultaneous 5-axis machining. We were the forerunner in the industry to develop and sell this INTEGREX in the 1980s. With the improvements we have made over time, this model can now offer the most suitable option for each customer from a wide range of features and specifications, including specifications with a sub-spindle or a lower turret, as well as over a hundred tool magazine and automation systems.
There is a customer here in Thailand who uses about 10 of these INTEGREX to process aircraft parts with complex shapes. The customer used to divide the process into lathe processes and machining center processes. The complex shape of the parts required many setup changes and it was therefore considered best to cut one piece a day. It was 2016 when a customer consulted us, asking if we could somehow increase productivity since the amount of work was likely to increase rapidly. At that time, we proposed the INTEGREX i-200. Since it was the customer’s first multitasking machine, they were very worried at first, but productivity has more than doubled since the introduction of the first machine.
For the past five years, customers have been purchasing approximately two new additional units a year of the INTEGREX model. We are convinced that the customer valued the fact that in one setup and one unit processing you can complete the processing of high-value-added aircraft parts with complex shapes which require both turning and milling.
Although the initial investment is not small, once you use it, you will surely understand that it is a “profitable machine”, we have confidence in our product. It can also help to solve labor shortage, and so we would like to continue promoting sales here in Thailand.
