Does this sound familiar? An operator is working with a mechanical press brake, which has a ram that has to complete its full cycle and a stroke cycle speed that can’t be adjusted, but before he can get started he has to figure out the appropriate bend allowance and k factor for the job.

If that sounds familiar, you have been around press brakes for quite a while, or you have a good knowledge of how bending used to occur in fabrication shops. You also probably know that bending is not done that way for the most part today.

Modern press brakes are much safer and don’t require as much manual intervention as their predecessors. They are sophisticated machines designed to keep pace with today’s rapid fabricating environment. Let’s take a look at the different elements that separate today’s modern equipment from yesterday’s older pieces of iron. There are many ways to press a workpiece using Press brake with many interesting technologies.

The evolution of precision bending

Bystronic – Fast bending technology

In order to enable fast and efficient bending processes, Bystronic has developed the Xcite press brake. The fast and economical way to high-quality bent parts.

The Xcite 80 E is Bystronic’s electrically driven press brake. It is the fast and economical way to high-quality bent parts. In concrete terms it bends some 2.5 times faster than a hydraulic press brake. Using the Fast Bend+ safety system the tool can be positioned very close to the metal sheet without the operator being placed in any danger. Only then does the machine switch over to bending speed.

Furthermore, the Xcite is extremely accurate. Thanks to Bystronic’s proprietary Force Dynamic Drive it bends to within a top class tolerance of plus/minus 25 arc minutes and with a simply incredible repeatability of plus/minus 0.0025 millimeters. Behind the Force Dynamic Drive there lies the interaction between a special mounting of the lower beam and the unique drive system of the upper beam.

HACO – High Accurate Pressbrake

Haco’s PressMaster series hydraulic CNC pressbrakes features a full integration of high level machine, control, software, safety and tooling technology for the benefit of short set up times, high part accuracy and safe operation without compromising on productivity.

The state-of-the-art Multi Touch FastBEND-2D MT Premium control offers Automatic Tool Search during designing your part along with instantaneous calculation of bending sequence and NC program.

The machine can be optionally equipped with the ‘Smart Tool Locator’ system indicating the correct tooling position as well as the active tooling during the bending process.

Lazersafe’s Optical Safety Guard system IRIS guarantees safe operation controlling the entire area around the top tooling, discontinuing the fast downward movement of the beam instantaneously when detecting any safety hazard in the protected area.

The New Standard Tooling system offers the highest accuracy and durability. Vertical loading together with the unique self seating and self aligning characteristics guarantee short set up times.

The symbiosis of the above technologies results in an unprecedented flexible pressbrake operation offering short set up times and high accuracy parts with +/- 0.1mm dimensional and +/- 20’ angle precision.
