The Thai Heat Treating Association was established and registered on 25 December 2017 by a group of professors from the Metallurgical Engineering Department, Suranaree University of Technology.

Assoc. Prof. Somnuk Watanasriyakul, President of the Thai Heat Treating Association, explained about the heater treating processes which is a process of manipulating metal to be stronger or malleable according to the application. This is a very important process for determining the properties of manufacturing parts, as it is the final process before finally being assembled or use. Heat treatment is used in multiple manufacturing industries such as automotive, agricultural machinery, molds, and many more. There are two types of process users: in-house heat treatments owned by parts manufacturers and commercial heat treatments who are supplying heat treatment as part of their services.

The objectives of the Thai Heat Treating Association establishments are as follows:

  1. To support and conduct activities that educate and develop professions of personnel in the metal heat treatment and surface engineering industries
  2. To collect news and information beneficial to both industrial and academic sectors.
  3. To provide consultation and suggestions concerning engineering and technology as well as relevant standards.
  4. To provide consultation and suggestions concerning energy and the environment.
  5. To support and conduct research and development projects.
  6. To be a representative of the metal heat treatment and surface engineering industries; to coordinate and conduct activities for mutual benefits in collaboration with relevant Thai and International Government and private organizations. However, the Association has no political involvement.

In addition to the objectives mentioned above, a group of personnel involved in the heat treatment industry from both industrial and academic sectors will lead to an exchange of knowledge and considerable experiences as well as directly encourage apprenticeships in the industry. Key activities planned by the association include training programs and competency tests to issue the certificate of heat treatment knowledge and competency. This will help elevate the ability of personnel working in the heat treatment industry.

During the METALEX 2020 on 20 November 2020, THTA has successfully conducted a seminar in regards to the current topics in heat treatment. While one of the speakers Mr. Phummarin Sosrisakorn, Managing Director of Prolific Heating International Co., Ltd (PHI), speaks and discuss “Preventive Maintenance and Repairing of Mesh Belt Continuous & Sealed Quench Furnaces.” The seminar covers the day to day problem faced by heat-treater, and other information beneficial to Thailand’s Heat Treatment Furnace Industry.
