Iscar’s Deca IQ Thread is a round insert with five double-sided corners, providing 10 functional cutting edges. The line is designed to boost production, raise quality and reduce costs.
Iscar’s new Deca IQ Thread delivers the most economical, currently available, price per threading corner. As the new product’s name implies, the tangentially clamped threading inserts feature 10 cutting edges – i.e. a 16mm round insert with 5 double-sided corners, providing a total of 10 cutting edges. This newly developed geometry delivers by far the most economical price per threading corner when compared to the popular 3 cornered threading laydown insert.
Threading Inserts with 10 Cutting Corners
The insert features a positive, free-cutting geometry and is designed to promote accurate edge location and repeatability after corner indexing. The IC908-grade insert can be used in a variety of materials. The toolholders feature coolant channels designed for use with conventional and high-pressure coolant ability. The coolant channels of the tools feature outlets that are close to the cutting edge, enabling shorter machining time, longer tool life, improved chip control, effective cooling-down of the cutting edge and a more stable process.

Toolholders are available in a variety of sizes ranging from 0.5″ to 1″ (12 to 25 mm) to accommodate standard CNC machines as well as the Swiss industry. The front edge of the insert is parallel to the front edge of the toolholder, making it well suited for Swiss machining. According to the company, this enables the threading operation to get closer to the guide bushing, resulting in less vibration and better finishes.
Excellent Precision and Surface Quality
This unique (patented) geometry is a 16 mm round insert with 5 double-sided corners, providing 10 cutting corners. The new geometry provides the most economical price per threading corner (when compared with the popular 3 corner lay down inserts). In the initial stage, ISCAR is introducing the most popular thread profiles and pitch sizes:
- TTG-16E-ISO – ISO – Metric
- TTG-16E-UN – UN – Unified thread
- TTG-16E-A55 – Partial 55° profile
- TTG-16E-A60 – 60° profile
The new DECA-IQ-THREAD line was developed according to an advanced technological procedure, which results in very accurate geometry and edge location repeatability after corner indexing. The new inserts are made from the versatile grade IC908. The new inserts also provide advantageous tool life when compared to major threading insert manufacturers. The tools that carry the new inserts feature coolant channels designed also for the use of high pressure coolant. 4 corner indexing can be performed by only a partial opening of the clamping screw, so the indexing action is short and easy and no setup operation is then required.
Whatever your machining process, external or internal threading is likely a part of your manufacturing process.
