“Sumipol Corporation” is a name that has been synonymous with success for the past 30 years, earning trust and industry-wide recognition. Good management from one generation to the next has allowed Sumipol to maintain the title of leading distributor of high-quality machining and industrial tools, providing with all-round service.

Now under the executive leadership of the next generation, Sumipol is looking to broaden its vision in the age of advanced technology.  Mr. Thongpol Oulapathorn, Executive Director of Sumipol Corporation Limited and Director of Sumipol Institute of Manufacturing Technology (“SIMTec”), a recently established technical learning academy, said that the next milestone Sumpiol aims to achieve is to be The Total Industrial Service Provider.   The company will do this by upgrading its “Triple S Mission” (Selection, Service and Specialist) mission, which has been in practice for over 10 years, to “3 Solutions”.

Mr. Thongpol Oulapathorn says, “We will be the company that creates value through service, focusing on productivity enhancement and aiming to be the most trusted company in the sector.”  Sumipol has its customer-centric goals with a particular focus on quality, efficiency and cost savings.

The “3 Solutions” are as follows: Machining Solutions which consist of CNC machines and cutting tools; Measuring Solutions which consist of inspection for quality control throughout the manufacturing process; and Factory Automation Solutions which consist of production line automation usingrobots and Factory IoT.

Sumipol’s Big Step to Enhance their Offering to Increase Customer Productivity

“The development of “Factory Automation Solutions” is being provided in collaboration with DENSO, Japan’s No. 1 automotive components manufacturer, who has implemented “Lean Automation” successfully throughout its global factory network. The uniqueness is the design of automation by “manufacturers for manufacturers” – through DENSO understanding factories requirements first-hand.  This process begins with visualization of the current production line using Factory IoT, followed by diagnosis of the production process, with improvements ifocusing on waste reduction before designing a system from semi-automated to fully automated; with the ultimate goal to achieve the maximum efficiency and the optimal cost effectiveness.”

Sumipol has conducted modern stock management, which ensures on-time delivery, meeting customer’s demands and production continuity. In addition to after-sales services, Sumipol provides technical advice, which is required by large numbers of SMEs. Sumipol has teams of engineers to provide consultation and assist customers in problem solving. “We are forming partnerships with customers to increase productivity, reduce costs, and speed up cycle time. Because we recognize the importance of automation technology which is playing a significant role in increasing production efficiency, we have established a ‘System Integrator’ company called ’P1 Automation’. P1 Automation operates on the principle that ’Your Productivity is our First Priority’, and through its offering enables Sumipol to offer customers total service in one place.”

Sumipol Institute of Manufacturing Technology: The Solution to Human Development in the Age of Industry 4.0

Mr. Thongpol stated that “because human resource development underpins the strength of Thai industry, Sumipol has decide to take part in up-skilling personnel for customers, and this is being done through the establishment of Sumipol Institute of Manufacturing Technology (“SIMTec”). This technical learning academy was founded as collaboration between 14 organizations from both the government and private sectors, including the world’s leading manufacturers of machine tools and devices, with many coming from Japan.  SIMTec is establishing itself as the hub to develop engineers and technicians in industrial sectors, as well as technical teachers and students with the skills to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0. It is located at the entrance of Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong, at the heart of EEC, and will officially open on the 30 August 2019.”

SIMTec is a new dimension of technical academy, providing solutions for advanced manufacturing applications. The main differentiation is the practical training with hi-tech machinery supported by the manufacturers who own the technology and knowhow in different fields. The products from many companies will be installed in a simulated production line as a “Learning Factory”, being supplied from the likes of DMG MORI, Fanuc, Mitutoyo, DENSO, Omron, Sumitomo, OSG, A.L.M.T. and BIG Daishowa.

A highlight is the Mitutoyo Institute of Metrology (“MIM”), established by Mitutoyo as a complete learning platform for a full range of measuring instruments. DENSO has also setup the Lean Automation System Integrator (“LASI”).  This is their second learning center, with the first located at Industrial Transformation Center (“ITC”), at Kluaynamthai, which is a collaboration between DENSO and the Department of Industrial Promotion supported by the co-operation between the Thai and Japanese governments.at,”

“These are big, significant steps and challenges for Sumipol Corporation – to create the maximum value for our customers, Thai manufacturers, in order to increase their competitiveness and to promote the sustainable development and growth of Industry 4.0,” Mr. Thongpol Oulapathorn concluded.
